Canon PowerShot SX230HS Reviewed Print E-mail

The new and exciting PowerShot SX230HS came out quite recently in the spring of 2011. This particular model has some new features such as GPS included and some will be relieved to know that it is neither as bulky nor heavy as some other cameras. It is lightweight and quite slim for easy portability and storage. This model comes with a 14x optical zoom lens, which is plenty to capture objects that are far away. The power of this 14x Optical zoom lens is better than a number of good sets of binoculars, and it will help create some amazing shots. This lens will bring planets closer!

The Canon PowerShot SX230HS has a 12.1 megapixel resolution so you can take high definition pictures, a 3.0 wide LCD (liquid crystal display) with HS (high sensitivity) system which combined not only allows for you to take strikingly beautiful, clear pictures but also enables you to take even better pictures in either low light or pictures taken at night. With video resolution now at 1080p you can record great video with this camera. Obviously, not all photos taken at night using the HS system will be perfect but this system enables better pictures in low light conditions than many other cameras in today's market.

Making good quality videos with this camera has been greatly improved. The PowerShot SX230HS stores video in 1080p HD format at twenty four fps high definition video compared with some older models only coming with a 720p resolution. This enables it to provide fine detail up close and a brilliant spectrum of colours in much the same way as it does with photographs. This camera allows you to optically zoom even while you are filming a video clip. The CIS (continuous image stabilization) helps to keep your images in the videos still even while during full magnification. As far as the noise that goes along with shooting videos, some actually had no sound whatsoever while some had an audible motor sound. There are options to shoot videos in various settings including super slow motion and with color accents.

Canon has created two distinct categories located in the mode dial, rather than merging the effects together with the various scene modes. Because of this feature, it is now easier to find various modes of shooting. This camera also received an increase in LCD pixels displayed upon its full three inch widescreen display which gave it quite a jump from just over two hundred thousand dots to a better over four hundred and fifty thousand dots per picture. This better quality display really increases the functionality of this camera and it will assist in improving the shooting experience overall. Other than the new GPS sensor and the newly located power button, the Canon PowerShot SX230HS was designed with the same automatic pop-up flash, rear control panel that is touch sensitive as in the Canon PowerShot SX210IS.

The new GPS features should also be discussed. It can take some time for the camera to establish it's location and you really need to be outside, as it is difficult to communicate with satellites through anything other than air. Thats the only bad news. When it is working, it works very well. It even comes complete with a maps program that keeps track of every GPS-laden image by showing their coordinates on a Google map. This helps you enjoy 'revisiting' all the wonderful places that you record on your vacations and outings. One note of caution to keep in mind is that if you happen to keep the GPS logged on, it will drain your camera's battery power even when you have powered off. The ratings and reviews for this camera have been extremely good and come highly recommended if you are looking for a very good, decent priced camera.
